Tennis Complex

With a convenient location just a few minutes from Hickory, NC,  it's easy to see why Rock Barn is the place to make a racket!

Our Tennis Complex consists of four hard courts as well as four hydro (“clay”) courts, all of which are lighted for evening play. The Tennis Pro Shop features a complete line of equipment and accessories. There is also a spacious viewing area, elevated in the center of the complex for an eagle-eye view of all the courts and activities.

    • Rock Barn Golf and Spa Members, can enjoy a variety of fun tennis activities. Below includes a list of ongoing events, however, we also offer seasonal or monthly activities such as Themed Round Robin events or Special Tournaments and of course the popular Summer Kids Camps.

  • Meet the Pro

    • Scott Nestor, USPTA Director of Tennis

      Scott has over 20 years of teaching experience, is a Level 1 certified USPTA instructor and holds a High Performance Coaching credential. Scott has played junior college and Division II tennis. Under Scott’s leadership Rock Barn is having a number of tournaments and a very successful Pro AM. Scott also has clinic and activities for adults and juniors of all ages. “I have visited and played at many tennis clubs in my career, and Rock Barn is one of the best tennis settings ever.” ~Scott Nestor  

      Shanda Hedrick, USPTA Assistant Tennis Pro

      Shanda has over 5 years of teaching and playing experience, she is a professional level certified USPTA tennis instructor with certificates in USTA 10 and under tennis for kids. Shanda plans and coordinates many of Rock Barn’s very successful tournaments and summer camp programs for both our junior and adult leagues. She specializes in clinics and activities for adult beginners and juniors, and children 10 and under. Shanda is also our clay court specialist, which is why Rock Barn has “the best hydro clay courts in all of the Foothills league”.

  • Tennis Weekly
    • Events

      Ages 6-10, the Pro and Assistant Pro teaches the kids how to serve and return, rally skills, volleys, instant rally, approaching the net, and singles play. In this age group we use the USTA Quick Start Program along with the age and skill appropriate red, orange, and green dot balls. This group meets every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 4-5pm.

      Ages 11 & Up, the Pro and Assistant Pro teaches the kids proper forehand and backhand ground strokes, serves and returns, volleys, overheads and lobs, approaching the net, singles and doubles play, and USTA tournament play. We also use the skill appropriate green dot and regular balls. This group meets every Monday from 4-5pm and Tuesday – Thursday from 5-6pm.

      Ladies Clinic

      Ladies if you want to practice your serves, over heads, backhand and forehand strokes, volleys, or approaching the net, then Monday mornings and Thursday night Ladies clinic is for you. Monday mornings and Thursday nights are for all levels of play.
      Time: Mondays 10-11am and Thursdays 6-7pm

      Men’s Drills

      If you want to work on your tennis game or if you haven’t played tennis in a long time and you want to start again. Tuesday night’s men’s drill is the perfect time. Tuesday night’s are for all levels of play.
      Time: 6-7pm

      Cardio Tennis

      Cardio Tennis is a high energy fitness activity that combines the best features of the sport of tennis with cardiovascular exercise, delivering the ultimate, full body, calorie burning aerobic workout. It is a very social and fun class for players of all ability levels taught by Rock Barn Golf and Spa’s Tennis Pro Scott Nestor. If you’ve never played tennis before it is a great way to be introduced to the sport and if you are an experienced high level tennis player it is the best way to train for tennis. Regardless of ability or fitness level the tennis pro is trained to provide the ultimate workout for each person.       Rock Barn Golf & Spa Members, every Tuesday and Thursday we have a Tennis Round Robin. Times change during the spring and fall, so please call or email the tennis pro shop for times.

      Cardio Tennis

      Every Monday and Wednesday our Tennis Pro, Scott Nestor, teaches a cardio tennis class for players of all levels from 8-9 am; cost is $10 per class.

      Junior Academy

      The tennis staff and I had a great time this summer teaching the kids in tennis camp. However school has started back and we have moved the Junior Academy to Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
      Ages 10 and Under, Time: 4-5 pm, Price: Members $20.00 per week, Non-Members $30.00 per week 
      Ages 11 and Up, Time: 5-6:15 pm, Price: $30.00 per week
