Where Can Dermal Fillers and Injectables Be Applied?

Dermal fillers and injectables are most often used on the face and around the neck – areas where aging is most visible. Some fillers are also used on the hands and chest area.

How Do Dermal Fillers and Injectables Work?

Dermal fillers are injected into the targeted area where there are fine lines, wrinkles, folds, and creases. Depending on the filler and the area treated, it may be injected into the surface layers of the skin or the deeper layers. Botox is injected between wrinkles to relax the muscles acting as a wrinkle relaxer. Most appointments for these treatments take no more than an hour and are often performed at lunchtime so that people can return to work.

Dermal Filler and Injectable Procedure Preparation

The preparation involved with dermal fillers and injectables is easy and only involves cleaning the area(s) where the injections are made. A clinician may take pictures prior to the treatments to use as a comparison. While there is little to no discomfort during the treatment, a numbing cream may be applied if necessary prior to the injection.

Dermal Filler and Injectable Recovery

With dermal fillers and injectables, there is no “recovery” per se. Most patients return to their daily routine immediately following their treatments. Any redness or slight swelling at the injection site typically resolves itself within 24 hours.

How Much Do Dermal Filler and Injectable Treatments Cost?

The cost of dermal fillers and injectables depends on the type of filler or injectable used, how many injections are required and whether treatments are combined with other medical spa services. We accept cash, checks, and major credit cards. We also offer financing with CareCredit®.

What is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is a popular, non-invasive skin treatment that permanently reduces or eliminates unwanted hair from areas of the body using laser energy. The laser targets and destroys the root without damaging the surrounding skin. The results are generally permanent and leave the skin smoother.

Benefits of Laser Hair Removal

Not only is laser hair removal permanent, it offers the following benefits:

  • Precise targeting in the specific areas
  • Results are forever
  • Minimal to no discomfort
  • All skin types able to be treated
  • Can treat tan skin in the summer with newer technology at CAMI
  • Affordable

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

The laser hair removal procedure uses concentrated beams of light energy to target and destroy hair follicles. This is accomplished when the light is absorbed by the follicle through heat. Depending on the follicle, it may only become partially damaged which means the treatment may need to be repeated. After a few treatments, the hair follicle is destroyed with no return of hair growth in those follicles. With laser hair removal, the light is big so it can accommodate larger areas of hair such as legs, arms, and backs.

The main reason that several treatments are typically required is that the light can only affect the follicle during the hair growth phase. Not all hair grows in the same phase and the laser only targets hair in the growth phase or Anagen.  At any given time, only 15%-20% of the body hair is in Anagen so it is necessary to perform laser hair removal several times to get all the hair in a targeted area.

Laser Hair Removal Preparation

To prepare for laser hair removal, there are several recommendations to ensure that the treatments are successful:
  • Preferable to avoid tanning or sunless tanners a month prior to the treatment as the skin should be as light as possible
  • Avoid waxing or plucking (eyebrows) two to four weeks prior to treatment
  • Shave the area to be treated as directed the night before treatment
  • Take any medications prescribed by Dr. Giordano if necessary

How Much Does Laser Hair Removal Cost?

The cost of laser hair removal is based on the size of the areas to be treated along with the hair color, density of hair to be removed and how many treatments are required to achieve full removal.  During a consultation, we review the cost as well as payment options and financing. Package options are available. We accept cash, check, and major credit cards, and offer financing through CareCredit®.

Is Laser Hair Removal Right for Me?

If you are self-conscious about unwanted hair on parts of your body or want a smoother appearance, then laser hair removal may be right for you. To ensure you are a candidate for this treatment, we recommend you schedule a consultation with Dr. Giordano or one of his licensed Laser Estheticians.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Benefits of Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing creates a smoother complexion and provides the following benefits:

  • Stimulates collagen production
  • Quick in-office procedure
  • Little recovery allowing patients to return to normal daily routine
  • Virtually no discomfort
  • Tightens skin
View before and after photos.

How Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Work?

With laser skin resurfacing, the focus is on damaged skin or areas of the skin with noticeable imperfections. When performed, a laser is broken into tiny columns of energy to penetrate the skin. When this happens, the damaged skin is removed, and new skin regenerates through a boost of collagen production that also adds volume to the treated areas. An advantage with laser skin resurfacing is that the laser targets damaged skin without affecting the surrounding healthy tissue.

Patients may receive a topical numbing cream or Lidocaine injection to reduce any discomfort along with a cream that protects the healthy tissue. They are also given protective goggles to wear for the eyes. Once this is done, the laser is used to treat the targeted areas. Laser resurfacing treatments can take up to two hours to complete.

Laser Skin Resurfacing Preparation

To prepare for laser skin resurfacing, patients may be given a topical ointment or serum to apply in the days prior to the treatment. They may also be asked to avoid any medications or supplements that thin the blood to prevent any bruising or swelling. It is preferred that patient stop all Retinoids as well prior to the procedure for a short time. Other than that, during a consultation, they are given detailed instructions about the preparation to help ensure successful treatments.

Laser Skin Resurfacing Recovery

In the first few days following laser skin resurfacing, patients may have an appearance similar to a mild or moderate sunburn. Minimal swelling may also be present in the first couple of days. As the healing process continues, there may be some slight flaking or peeling of the skin; however, certain moisturizers are helpful at keeping that to a minimum. We also use latest in silicone and petroleum based products to expedite healing. With laser skin resurfacing it is important to avoid the sun for a few weeks following the treatments to allow the skin to heal and prevent any discoloration to the new skin. The skin is very sensitive to sunlight, so sunscreen is imperative.

The positive results are typically quite noticeable following the treatment and get better over time as the collagen production boosts and new skin grows in. Depending on the severity of the imperfections, and the aggressiveness of the laser procedure, several treatments may be necessary to achieve the desired look.

How Much Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Cost?

The cost of laser skin resurfacing is different with each patient. It takes into account the area being treated such a face, eyes, neck, and/or chest, the extent of the damage or imperfections in that area and how many treatments are necessary. We discuss the cost involved during a consultation at which time we go over our payment options. We accept cash, checks and major credit cards as well as offer financing through CareCredit®.

Is Laser Skin Resurfacing Right for Me?

Laser resurfacing is right for you if you want to correct skin imperfections or reverse signs of aging. Most skin damage is to the outer layers of the skin making this treatment effective; however, it does not treat deep wrinkles and folds or sagging skin. There are many other cosmetic treatment options for those imperfections.

Laser Skin Resurfacing Consultation

During a consultation, Dr. Giordano meets with patients to evaluate their skin and talk with them about what they want to correct. Once he determines if laser skin resurfacing or another treatment is the best option, he goes over the procedure and provides detailed instructions for the treatments. He also answers any questions about the treatments.

At Carolina Age Management Institute, medical director Dr. Stephen Giordano offers laser skin resurfacing to patients from Charlotte, Huntersville and surrounding areas of North Carolina who want a smoother, fresher complexion or want to eliminate skin imperfections. Contact our office today to schedule your consultation.

Broadband Light Therapy

Broadband Light Therapy/BBL™

**A Dr. Giordano and CAMI Best Seller**
Serving the residents of Charlotte, Huntersville, and the surrounding communities, the Carolina Age Management Institute offers Broadband Light Therapy (BBL™) to rejuvenate the skin and reduce hyperpigmentation due to sun damage to look healthy and younger.

What is (Broadband Light Therapy/BBL™?

Broadband Light Therapy (BBL™) is a modality of Intense Light Therapy that revitalizes the skin, diminishes the appearance of sun damage, birthmarks, bruises, facial spider veins, vascular lesions, redness from rosacea, and reduces other signs of aging. With BBL™, intense pulses of light work to remove dead skin cells and other skin imperfections such as hyperpigmentation while at the same time, tightening the connective tissues in the targeted areas to leave the skin healthy and younger looking.  BBL Therapy turns on genes to express collagen that normally turn off in our early to mid 30’s causing sagging and volume loss.  This is one of the most revolutionary treatments of our time to reverse the clock. View before and after photos.

Benefits of Broadband Light Therapy (BBL™)

BBL™ is an intense pulse light treatment similar to laser that diminishes and erases skin imperfections and aging conditions. It is often a preferred treatment because of the following benefits:
  • Can be used in many areas of the body
  • Fast treatment
  • Little to no discomfort
  • No downtime
  • Often combined with other skin treatments
  • Boosts Collagen Production and Volume
  • Safe and Effective
  • Instant Results

How Does Broadband Light Therapy/BBL™ Work?

When getting BBL™ treatments, protective eyewear is placed over the eyes. A cooling gel is applied to the treatment area followed by a chilled applicator to deliver the light therapy. The wand directs short pulses of light energy to the targeted area of the skin’s surface. It targets red and brown discoloration in different areas of the body.  Sometimes, even bruises can be treated to make them dissipate faster such as after an injectable procedure. The result is diminishing or eliminating this discoloration to promote more youthful, radiant skin.  It treats many skin conditions and issues, including rosacea, sun spots, bruises, birthmarks, facial veins and other blemishes, to even out the skin’s tone and create a smoother, healthy complexion. A tremendous added benefit is the stimulation of collagen. Each treatment takes about 15-30 minutes depending on the extent of the area to be treated.

Broadband Light Therapy/BBL™ Preparation

The most important step in preparing for BBL™ is to avoid the sun or tanning lotions for two to four weeks prior to the treatment. As with any skin treatment, we recommend no smoking for a week prior to and following the treatment as it may negatively affect the results.

Broadband Light Therapy/BBL™ Recovery

Immediately following BBL™ therapy treatment, there may be some temporary redness for the first couple of hours, which quickly resolves itself. For the first few weeks following each treatment, it is important to avoid harmful direct sun exposure that can stimulate the melanocytes.  Skin may experience some flaking once the unwanted pigment comes to the surface so by avoiding direct exposure, you can avoid any further skin discoloration. One visit results in fantastic changes to the skin, but typically several sessions purchased in a package and completed over a few months leads to the full, exceptional effects of BBL™ therapy.

How Much Does Broadband Light Therapy/BBL™ Cost?

The cost of BBL™ therapy is different with each patient based on the area to be treated, whether it is combined with other treatments and how many sessions are needed. We discuss the cost during the initial consultation in addition to payment options. We accept cash, checks and major credit cards in addition to offering financing through CareCredit®.

How Do I Know if Broadband Light Therapy/BBL™ is Right for Me?

If your skin shows noticeable discoloration because of issues such as sun spots, vessels, vascular redness, rosacea, freckles, birth marks, bruises and other blemishes, you may want to consider BBL™ therapy.

Broadband Light Therapy/BBL™ Consultation

Prior to receiving BBL™ therapy, Dr. Giordano meets with you at a consultation to evaluate your skin and talk with you about your imperfections and what you want to achieve. This allows him to determine if BBL™ treatments or another skin treatment is right for your skin.  During this appointment, he can also answer any questions you have.

At Carolina Age Management Institute, Dr. Stephen Giordano treats people living in and around Charlotte and Huntersville, NC, who suffer from spider veins with sclerotherapy to greatly diminish their appearance.

What is Sclerotherapy?

  • Immediate and permanent results
  • No lasting pain or discomfort

How Does Sclerotherapy Work?

The treatment area is cleaned and possibly numbed with a topical anesthetic. After that, Asclera™ is injected into the veins causing them to scar and collapse. Sclerotherapy Preparation

The only preparation for sclerotherapy involves avoiding blood thinning medications and supplements, such as aspirin, ibuprofen and Vitamin E, for about one week prior to the treatment.  If you are taking any of these, Dr. Giordano will discuss the appropriate plan of action for you.

Sclerotherapy Recovery

Following sclerotherapy, patients may return to their normal activities including exercise to promote blood flow and speedy recovery. Patients may be asked to wear compression socks for two to three days following treatment to ensure treatment is efficacious and maximized.

The results of sclerotherapy are visible following the treatment with the disappearance of the veins in the few weeks following the treatment. It may take several treatments to greatly reduce the appearance or erase spider and reticular veins with these results being permanent.  Mild bruising at the site of injection may occur.

How Much Does Sclerotherapy Cost?

Sclerotherapy varies in terms of cost with each patient. The cost is based on the extent of the spider veins being treated, how many injections are necessary and how many treatments it takes to achieve the desired look. PRP Therapy

PRP Therapy (Platelet-Rich Plasma)

For people living in and around Charlotte and Huntersville, NC, who want to slow hair loss and even begin regrowth without the use of any prescription solutions or invasive procedures, Dr. Stephen Giordano, medical director at Carolina Age Management Institute, uses PRP therapy to stimulate hair growth in areas of the scalp that are bald or sparsely covered.

What is PRP Therapy?

With PRP therapy for hair loss, platelet-rich plasma is taken from the blood and injected into the areas of the scalp where hair is thinning. Platelet-rich plasma has been used for years as a treatment for treating injuries and cosmetic procedures to reduce wrinkles. PRP contains growth factors that boost collagen production and promotes hair growth by stimulating the follicles.

At Carolina Age Management Institute, Dr. Giordano combines PRP with ACell. This is an FDA-approved protein matrix that is often combined with PRP to attract the body’s own factors and healing proteins to continuously provide growth factors directly in the hair follicles. This combination slows hair loss and may even boost hair regrowth.

Benefits of PRP Therapy

While there are several methods of hair transplantation, PRP therapy is used to stop thinning hair and offers the following benefits:

  • Non-invasive procedure
  • Procedure takes about 60 minutes or less
  • No risk for adverse or allergic reaction
  • Fast recovery
  • Natural looking results

How Does PRP Therapy Work?

PRP and ACell complement each other because the ACell stimulates adult stem cells while the PRP’s growth factors is loaded with factors that stimulate the development of new blood vessels. PRP with ACell has been shown to regrow hair for people suffering from pattern hair loss along with alopecia and hypotrichosis with the eyebrows.

PRP and ACell treatments last about 90 minutes from start to finish. It involves pulling the PRP and growth factors from the blood. After that is accomplished, it is combined with ACell and injected into the targeted areas of the scalp. To minimize discomfort, a local anesthetic is given to numb the scalp. For those with anxiety, sedatives are possible if someone is with you to drive you home.

PRP Therapy Preparation

Preparation for PRP therapy involves the process to separate the PRP and growth factors from the blood. Dr. Giordano provides patients with a detailed list of instructions during consultations.

PRP Therapy Recovery

PRP therapy recovery is easy. For the first few days, any pain is easily managed with ibuprofen or acetaminophen. Side effects remedy themselves within 48 hours. We recommend avoiding any strenuous activity for several days following the procedures but other than that, normal activity can be resumed following the treatment. If sedatives are used during the treatment, allow 24 hours of rest prior to normal routines.

How Much Does PRP Therapy Cost?

The cost of PRP therapy varies with each patient based on the extent of the area being treated and whether other hair transplantation treatments are performed at the same time. During consultations, Dr. Giordano goes over the costs as well as payment options and financing. We accept cash, checks, and major credit cards in addition to offering financing through CareCredit®.

Is PRP Therapy Right for Me?

PRP therapy may be right for you if you suffer from moderate hair loss and want to slow or stop hair loss and start regrowth without using more invasive procedures or chemical solutions.
